Pinterest Battle of the Decades - the 1990's

We are up to the 1990's in our trip down memory lane via Pinterest. The 90's were my first decade as an adult and are marked with many of life's big milestones. I graduated from college, got married, had my first child, and starting teaching all in the 1990's. That's a lot of big events so this decade certainly has a lot of meaning to me. Take a look at these Pinterest boards to see what you remember.

The first Pin board is from Megan Cronk and has over 180 pins. The overall theme of this board is related to childhood memories of the 90's so if you grew up during this decade you will enjoy reminiscing.

This board from Kate has a balanced representation of 1990's culture. Television, movies, music, fashion, and the news are all pinned to this board.

Next is this board by Joanne Styers which contains over 290 pins about life in the 90's. It offers a nice variety of memories from the decade including pagers, Beavis and Butthead, and the Animaniacs.

Last is this impressive board by Brittany Hayes that boasts of over 740 Nineties themed pins. If you were alive during this decade then this board is the one to lead you down memory lane.

The 1990's, the decade of Bill Clinton, the end of the Cold War, the Gulf War, and the beginning of the internet. A decade between 9/11 and  Cold War fears. Was this the best decade of the past six or were others better in your opinion? Comments and votes are appreciated.

Pinterest Battle of the Decades - the 1980's

The decade of excess. Reagan, Wall Street, Cold War tensions ease, big hair, and bad fashion. Yet, that's just a small taste of the 1980's. The decade where I went from 12 to 21. I was much more aware of this warts of the decade as I became a young adult but there was still a lot of innocence in my perception of world events. So let's remember the 1980's one more time.

Staring off, here is my board that has over 220 pins. While searching other boards I noticed the lack of sports references so I tried to rectify that mine.

Then there is this board by Debbie Campbell that has nearly 270 pins of 80's memories. I liked the way she added some more obscure products I had forgotten about  like Slice soda, and Tootsie drops.

Check out this board by Robin Nampel which has over 375 pins dedicated to the 1980's. This board provides a great look into the 80's as a kid.

Last is this board from Evreux France which has an amazing 500 plus pins. If it happened in the 80's then this board probably makes reference to it.

The 1980's seem almost cartoon like in their excess and innocence. Big hair, men with pierced ears and make up, neon colored clothes, and two types of music to scare parents. Heavy Metal and Rap. The 80's started with great promise as Reagan reinvigorated American patriotism and by the end of the decade the Cold War was ending. So where does this time period rank for you? Pinterest Battle of the Decades - the 1970's

This is the decade of my childhood. My memories of the 1970's are the good kind that you are supposed to have when thinking about growing up. I was completely oblivious to any of the negativity that people often associate with the decade. I wasn't worried about gas shortages, Watergate, Vietnam, or that disco sucked. I was too busy being a kid and having fun.

The first 1970's Pinterest board I'd like to share is my own. I have put a great deal of time into accumulating over 300 pins that offer a fairly thorough representation of the decade.

There is this board by Mary Howells that has over 160 pins but what makes it stand out is the frequent detailed descriptions below the pictures. Plus, she has a video the legendary "I'd like to buy the world a Coke" commercial.

Check out this 1970's board by Deby Doerhoff. It contains over 300 pinned items and features many fashion and home interior pictures.

Finally, there is this very extensive 1970's board from Evreux France. It contains over 800 pins and covers all aspects of life in the 1970's. The highlight of this board is the extensive collection of videos featuring the best music from the decade.

From this point on I become a biased observer due to the fact that I was alive and kicking from this decade on. As stated earlier, my recollection of the 1970's was through the rose colored glasses of a child so I am far from a fair judge of this time period. Were the 70's your favorite? Comment below or at least participate in the poll at the top of the page.

Pinterest Battle of the Decades - the 1960's

The tumultuous 1960's. The decade of my birth. The decade of John F. Kennedy, the Beatles, the moon landing, Woodstock and Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech. It is also the decade of the Vietnam War and the assassinations of  John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, and Robert Kennedy. Were the sixties the best decade? Check out the Pinterest boards below and remember the decade that was the 60's.

1) This board by Patty Morris features an excellent array of 1960's memories. I especially like the picture of the woman holding up a newspaper reporting the death of JFK.

2) This terrific board by Pamela Butler features over 200 pins that represent the 60's very well. The Romper Room button brought back memories.

3) These next two boards stand out because of their focus on the historical events of the decade. First is this board by Anna McGonical which features some very powerful images and newspaper headlines. I am especially drawn to the image of Ruby Bridges.

4) The next board with a historical focus is this one from Jennifer Bernhard. This board has detailed detailed description below many of the images which provides a better learning experience to anyone who wants more information. I appreciate all the historic references and the inclusion of many videos.

5) The final board, by Linda van den Bosch, will have you scrolling through over 400 pins of images from the 1960's. It is a very thorough trip through the decade and her captions provide a personal touch.

While I was born in the 60's, I was too young to remember anything. The 50's and the 60's are often spoken in such reverence by people who were alive at the time. The 60's were unique in that the beginning of the decade was so unlike the end in terms of music, fashion, and culture. America changed a great deal over those ten years. Were the sixties the best decade? You tell me. Exercise your right to vote by picking the best decade.

Pinterest Battle of the Decades - the 1950's

One of my favorite things to do with Pinterest is to reminisce by looking at the pictures of American culture from the past. I was born in the 60's so I am living in my 5th decade overall. I have been putting together my own decades boards and it has me wondering, which was my favorite decade and why? I still don't have an answer but it makes an interesting question. The next 5 posts will be a showcase of the culture of the past 6 decades. I am starting with the 1950's since that is the decade when  Rock n' Roll music was born. Here are the best Pinterest boards to relive the fabulous 1950's.

1) Beth McHugh has put together a board that does an excellent job of representing the culture of 1950's.

2) This board from Michele Jones has nearly 200 pins that show us what life was like in the 1950's.

3) Third is this board by Lynn Quick which, like the others, gives us a great view of the decade that was the 1950's.

4) Fourth and far from least is this incredibly thorough representation of the 1950's by Diane Saum Downard. She has dedicated 13 boards and over 1600 pins to American life in the 50's. Have fun looking back at this special decade.
When I think of the 1950's I think of Dwight Eisenhower, Elvis Presley, and life as it was shown on Happy Days and Grease. Were the 1950's the best decade ever? Please comment below or check back for the poll that will be posted in a few days.
