Opening Themes TV - Watch your favorite opening TV themes
About a month ago I shared Television Tunes, a website that allowed you to listen to the opening theme songs from old television show. Opening Themes TV is a new website that goes one step further because it contains a huge library of show openings on video. With this site you can watch the openings of your favorite shows from the 1950's on up to the 2000's. You start by clicking on the decade and then the TV shows are sorted alphabetically. Many of the videos contain detailed descriptions about the show so viewers can get some background knowledge. While Opening Themes TV is a great way for adults to get nostalgic, teachers could actually use it to demonstrate how societies change over time by comparing television shows from different decades. History World and the 1960's
History World is a tremendous asset for history teachers and students. It contains a large amount of historical information about nations and people from around the world and the creators are always adding more information. The site allows you to search alphabetically or use their search bar. It also contains timelines, quizzes and maps that identify historic locations. History teachers should really take the time to look around this amazing site. Best of all, the site is free to use.
Next is a site called the 1968 exhibit, which instantly appealed to me because that is the year of my birth. The 1968 exhibit chronicles the year that saw the election of Nixon, the escalation of the Vietnam War and the assassinations of Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy. The site offers a month by month glimpse and a timeline of 1968. This site is great for history teachers, students, and for those old enough to remember, a way to relive this turbulent year.
Speaking of the 1960's, I wanted to share this very interesting web page dedicated to discount stores of the 1960's. It is a web page that shares pictures and descriptions of various stores that thrived during the decade. Anyone old enough to remember will certainly enjoy this trip through time.

Pinterest Battle of the Decades - the 1960's
The tumultuous 1960's. The decade of my birth. The decade of John F. Kennedy, the Beatles, the moon landing, Woodstock and Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech. It is also the decade of the Vietnam War and the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King, and Robert Kennedy. Were the sixties the best decade? Check out the Pinterest boards below and remember the decade that was the 60's.
1) This board by Patty Morris features an excellent array of 1960's memories. I especially like the picture of the woman holding up a newspaper reporting the death of JFK.
4) The next board with a historical focus is this one from Jennifer Bernhard. This board has detailed detailed description below many of the images which provides a better learning experience to anyone who wants more information. I appreciate all the historic references and the inclusion of many videos.
5) The final board, by Linda van den Bosch, will have you scrolling through over 400 pins of images from the 1960's. It is a very thorough trip through the decade and her captions provide a personal touch.
While I was born in the 60's, I was too young to remember anything. The 50's and the 60's are often spoken in such reverence by people who were alive at the time. The 60's were unique in that the beginning of the decade was so unlike the end in terms of music, fashion, and culture. America changed a great deal over those ten years. Were the sixties the best decade? You tell me. Exercise your right to vote by picking the best decade.
