Internet Resources, Civil War, and Gizmos

Lately I have been coming across many excellent U.S. Civil War resources but among all the resources I have found the Civil War Daily Gazette stands out. It is blog that gives a day by day account of the bloodiest war in America's history. The Gazette was started on November 4, 2010 to commemorate the War's sesquicentennial and will continue until the year 2015. History teachers, students, and Civil War buffs should definitely bookmark this site .

This next site, Internet4classrooms, has been around since 2000 so it is not new but it is new to me. I am really not sure how this site has gone undiscovered (by me) for so long. It has a fantastic array of resources for teachers of all levels and subject areas. It has a section dedicated to common core, online tutorials, internet links, and more. If you've never seen Internet4classrooms, or you haven't been there in awhile, then do yourself a favor and see what it has to offer.

Today's final site is a fun blog called Oh Gizmo. This blog likes to share or poke fun of gadgets, products, stories and things they discover online. Some things they blog about are cool while others are simply bizarre. Either way this blog is always entertaining.

Old Photos of Gadget Recipes?

With my Pinterest cravings now satisfied, I am back to sharing my collection of unique websites I have hoarded. This post is comprised of a gadget shoppers dream site, another excellent cooking site, and an amazing collection of old pictures that will appeal to lovers of  history and photography.

First up is This is why I am broke, which is a site where you can purchase some of the coolest and most unique gadgets available. While I can't say I have ever bought anything, I love to browse their extensive collection of amazing products. If you would like to buy something unique for a friend or loved one, This is why I am broke is a site worth checking out.

Next there is this promising looking cooking site called Table Spoon. This site features a large collection of great recipes which are categorized by type of meat, cuisine, courses, diet, method, and occasion. In addition to their recipes they also feature a coupon section to assist your wallet as you shop for the necessary ingredients.

Finally there is this post from Denver Post photo blog. It is a photo gallery of 77 pictures of American cities before 1950. Many of the pictures are from the 19th century and go as far back as the Civil War era. These pictures are a "must see" for history buffs and fans of old photography.

Mysterious Gadget Scoop?

Have you ever wondered how words develop? The creators of Mysteries of Vernacular have created a website that addresses that question. While it is impossible to explain the evolution of all words, many of you may find their short video explanations interesting and thought provoking. I first learned about this site here, from the Free Technology for Teachers blog.

Today's second site, Scoop it, allows you to collect resources on a topic and then create a content page that can best be described as a montage of information. Your content page can be shared through social media or embedded in a blog or web page. Scoop it is free but there are upgraded plans for people who want more features like analytics. If you'd like to learn more go here or check out some examples here.

Today's last website is called Craziest Gadgets. This site shares products that are sometimes cool, sometimes wacky but always interesting.  While the items feature on Craziest Gadgets can be purchased from the website, you can always shop around to see if the items are available for less elsewhere.
